Surf Life Saving NSW

Saving lives

Surf Life Saving New South Wales required a new mobile-first website design with accessibility as a key component to the design. The key goal of the project was to bring an intuitive digital experience into the hands of all beachgoers. The design had to clearly reflect the well-known brand and clearly be a Surf Life Saving site.

Membership growth through good UX, increasing the funnel of attracting new members, and simplifying the process to becoming a member, increased sign-up to first aid courses – drive state-wide online bookings through an integration with the courses platform better suited to the needs of the user Accessibility was key, to ensure Australians of varying abilities can access and consume content on the site without obstacleAccessible for all Australians.

Accessibility

Accessibility ensures that users of varying abilities, such as those with vision impairments or other disabilities, can use the website with relative ease. This includes high contrast colours, code markup that is screen-reader device friendly and clear, and clean text without distracting imagery or colours in the background. Surf Life Saving NSW also commissioned one of Australia’s leading accessibility agencies to access the build as we progressed. The interactive prototype, UI design components, and the developed staging site were shared. The returned audit from the accessibility agency highlighted any issues that needed modification, which our developers adjusted accordingly – ensuring a highly accessible site was launched for SLSNSW.  Not-for-profits, community groups, and government agencies are that the website built adhered to accessibility AA compliance standards.
